Andrew is a Scottish artist, living and working in Glasgow. His drawing was  undertaken in response to a visit to the island of Iona and the Abbey. Andrew is fascinated by buildings and how they are formed by, and themselves form, place and identity. Iona Abbey was founded in response to the geography of the island and has since itself formed the spiritual atmosphere and identity of the place. Iona Abbey is carefully drawn in detail ‘as found’, showing every mark and blemish, recording a moment in the building’s life, from which it will continue to change and devolve. The drawing shows the south elevation, the facade first seen upon approach from the village, showing the external expression of the nave, transept with the tower above, the aisle and the chancel.
