You will need:
Approx. 50g of Aran Weight (3/5nm) Iona Wool
A pair of 5mm needles

 

Abbreviations

St(s) – Stitch(s)

RS – Right Side

WS – Wrong Side

K – Knit

P – Purl

 

Pattern

Cast on 31 sts.

Row (1) – (RS) Knit

(2) – (WS) Knit

(3) (RS): *K1, P1; repeat from * to last st, K1

(4) (WS): *P1, K1; repeat from * to last st, P1

Repeat row 3 & 4 for eight more rows   (12 rows worked in total)          

(13): (RS) K3, *p1, k1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.

(14) (WS) knit

Repeat rows 13 and 14 ten more times (34 rows total)

(35) (RS): *K1, P1; repeat from * to last st, K1

(36) (WS): *P1, K1; repeat from * to last st, P1

Repeat rows 35 & 36 once more (38 rows total)

(39) (RS) knit

Cast off all sts.

Make a second hand warmer in the same way.  

 

Seam neatly, leaving a gap big enough for your thumb.

If you use an invisible stitch to sew, the mitts can be reversed and worn either way around.
